Embracing a Green Ramadan
BDF’s Green Ramadan Initiative
Ramadan is a time of reflection, gratitude, and community. It’s also an opportunity to embrace sustainability and take action to protect the environment. This year, Bengal Dragons Foundation is proud to launch the Green Ramadan Initiative, encouraging individuals, families, and communities to adopt eco-friendly practices throughout the holy month.
Why a Green Ramadan?
Islam teaches us to be stewards of the Earth. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) emphasised the importance of conservation, kindness to animals, and reducing waste. Yet, during Ramadan, we often see an increase in food waste, excessive plastic use, and high energy consumption. The Green Ramadan Initiative aims to change this by promoting simple but impactful steps to reduce our environmental footprint while maintaining the spiritual essence of the month.
How You Can Participate
Our Green Ramadan Guide offers practical tips to help communities make sustainable choices, including:
Reducing plastic waste – Disposable plastic bottles harm the Environment. Use Reusable Water Bottles
Eco-Friendly Iftars – Using reusable or biodegradable plates and cutlery, reducing single-use plastics, and minimising food waste.
Water Conservation – Be mindful of water use during wudu (ablution) and daily activities.
Reducing Energy Use – Turning off unnecessary lights and appliances, and choosing energy-efficient options.
Community Litter Pick & Iftar: Taking Action Together
As part of Keep Wales Tidy’s Spring Clean Cymru, BDF will be organising a Community Litter Pick Day during Ramadan, bringing together volunteers to help clean up local areas. This initiative aligns with the values of environmental stewardship and giving back to our communities.
To further strengthen the spirit of togetherness, the litter-picking event will be followed by a community iftar, where participants can break their fast together in a meaningful way. It’s an opportunity to reflect, connect, and celebrate a Ramadan that is not just spiritual but also sustainable.
Join Us in Making a Difference
We invite individuals, mosques, community groups, and businesses to support the Green Ramadan Initiative by incorporating sustainable practices into their daily routines. Whether it’s reducing waste, planting trees, or participating in our community clean-up, every small effort counts.
Together, we can make this Ramadan a time of positive change—not just for ourselves but for the planet.
