Welsh Bangladeshi Community Cookbook officially published and available in all good bookshops
The highly anticipated Welsh Bangladeshi community cookbook, A Taste of Home: Bangladeshi Recipes from Welsh Kitchens, was officially launched in a heart-warming event celebrating culture, heritage, and community storytelling. The launch took place at Juboraj Restaurant in Cardiff bringing together a vibrant mix of community leaders, contributors, and supporters to celebrate the rich culinary heritage of the Welsh Bangladeshi community.
Hosted by the Bengal Dragons Foundation, the event featured inspiring speeches from key contributors and women of Welsh Bangladeshi heritage, including publisher Jannat Ahmed and illustrator Jaffrin Khan, who played integral roles in bringing this project to life. Attendees also heard from community members who shared their experiences contributing to the book, highlighting its significance in preserving and sharing cultural traditions.
Other notable speakers included photographer Kamila Jarczak, who documented the stories behind the recipes, and community contributor Rushna Begum from KidCare4U, whose work with local women helped gather many of the book’s unique stories and recipes.
The event also welcomed esteemed guests such as former Lord Mayor of Cardiff Bablin Molik and Cardiff Councillor Jasmin Chowdhury, who both shared their thoughts on the importance of celebrating the contributions of the Welsh Bangladeshi community.
With an overwhelming response from the public, A Taste of Home is now officially published and available for purchase at major retailers, including Waterstones and WHSmith. The book serves as a bridge between generations, offering readers a glimpse into the culinary traditions of the Welsh Bangladeshi community while promoting inclusivity and appreciation for diverse cultures.
Speaking on the success of the launch, Bengal Dragons Foundation said: “This project has been a testament to the power of food in bringing people together. We are incredibly proud to see A Taste of Home published and available for all to enjoy. The proceeds from the book will go back into community projects, ensuring that this initiative continues to benefit future generations.”
